Discover the village of Rougemont

The village, voted as one of Switzerland’s most beautiful and authentic, is home to several magnificent chalets which stand as a modern-day testament to the region’s popular folk art. These wooden buildings, some of which are over 400 years old, are steeped in history and proudly display engravings, paintings, flowers, and inscriptions. This village also holds exceptional historical heritage. Founded by monks from Cluny in 1080, the area includes an 11th century Romanesque church, as well as a 16th century castle, with both cultural monuments being of significant importance. Rougemont aligns it hedge of honor with its old and modern luxury chalets, all set in a traditional, magnificent design. The village has remained faithful to popular traditions, seducing visitors with its rustic charm and wholesome, family atmosphere. The church and its famous adjoining castle, with their long roof of “tavillons”, are important cultural relics, with guided tours being offered to offer insights into both the architecture and history of Rougemont. And if, after soaking up the cultural delights that Rougemont has to offer leaves you somewhat peckish, you can sample the local cheeses on offer. L’Etivaz, especially, is a cheese produced in the heart of the mountain pastures using a traditional method in a copper cauldron over a wood fire.

This is an authentic, peaceful and international village in a perfect setting for active recovery all year around.

All four seasons are to be savored in Rougemont, each one having something to offer those who visit. From direct access to walking trails, ski slopes, hiking, and the pleasure of the water, there is something for all to enjoy. Thanks, in particular to the typical and famous MOB train, Belle epoque wagons, and Golden pass which takes you to or from a destination in the Gstaad Valley to make the experience just as fantastic. The region is also known for its wonderful climate and fascinating traditions. It is easily accessible by car, train and plane, with its local airport in Saanen/Gstaad.

Summer

A hiking trail that can be completed in a day leads from the Videmanette mountain station over four passes to L’Etivaz through La Pierreuse, the largest nature conservation area in French-speaking Switzerland and fore-Alpine landscape of national significance with crags, flower meadows, moor landscape and forest. Over 300 Km of signposted walking or biking trails in this magnificent landscape of nature, flowers, Swiss agriculture life with cows and the little mountain train to make it a real “Heidi land” picture.

Winter

The Videmanette ski region has challenging slopes, an Alpine character and a direct link to the Gstaad winter sports region. Rougemont also has a cross-country skiing run, winter hiking trails, snowshoe trails and a sledge run.

Rougemont and Active Recovery Academy makes the perfect match for you.

Active Recovery involves walking as a cornerstone of the program. Walking is more than just strolling in the mountains; it is walking with a purpose, integrated with short topic related to a specific learning session. There is also a recovery part in the walk, making it more beneficial than a typical stroll. Studies show that walking in nature changes our brain structure – evidence for experiential education. Most people today live in cities and spend less time outside in nature like our ancestors did generations ago. Walking in the mountains helps reconnect people, soothing their mind and helping to reduce suffering from stress, fatigue, and exhaustion. During 2020/21, we evaluated and explored the region with very positive results. Walking on panoramic pathways in nature, in an authentic, traditional part of Switzerland was delightful experience for our customers. A full day alpine excursion, ending it all with a Belle Epoque train ride back from Schönried to our starting point, made the experience even more memorable. We have now the perfect location and programs to give the right support and tools that anyone can learn and apply to live well under any conditions, find meaning in their work and life, and progress toward their personal, private and professional goals. Looking forward to hearing from you…
